Sharyn Joy (Sweitzer) Hackney, 76, of Charlestown Twp., Ohio, died on Saturday, April 2, 2022 with her family by her side. Born in Canton, Ohio on March 12, 1946 to Daniel Lloyd and Margie Eileen (Wright) Sweitzer, Sharyn spoke fondly of growing up in a tight-knit family, spending the days playing outside with her siblings and cousins, or cooking in the kitchen with her grandma, Nellie. Sharyn graduated from Marlington High School in 1964 and attended Alliance Beauty College. She married William “Bill” Hackney in 1967, had two daughters, and was a dedicated homemaker. She had a heart for animals, rescuing a number of cats and horses over the years and establishing Hackney Thoroughbreds with her husband. She loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren, and was often seen cheering for them on the sideline or picking them up from school. She also had a great sense of humor and was a master at UNO and Chinese checkers. Sharyn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jackie Sweitzer and Thomas Sweitzer, and sister Jeanne Voshel. She is survived by her husband William Hackney, sister Penny (Pat) Murphy, sister-in-law Sandy Sweitzer, daughters Jodi Cardina and Cristine (Brian) Boyd, and grandchildren Michael, Eric and Kaelyn Cardina, Daniel and Lauren Boyd, and a number of nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. No services will be held, per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to complete colon cancer screening and/or donate to their local no-kill animal shelter.
