Ronald L. Balsley, age 84 of Saybrook Twp., passed away June 6, 2022 at UH Geneva Medical Center. Born April 15, 1938 in Cleveland to John and Cecelia Balsley, he had grown up in Concord before moving to the Ashtabula area many years ago. A clock smith by trade, Ron founded the landmark Saybrook Clock Shop in 1973, operating it for more than four decades until his retirement.
Gardening, antique collection and sailing were his hobbies. He was also a car enthusiast and was passionate about nature and wildlife. He spent many years volunteering for various charities including organizations catering to the hungry and homeless. Ron was deeply committed to his Catholicism—a member of both Assumption Church in Geneva, and Sts. Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Church in Girard, PA. Ron leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Alice (Hoyt) Balsley, his children, Catherine (Rick Brown) Balsley of Boardman and Jack (Dianna) Balsley of Indian Land, SC; brother John “Jerry” (Diane) Balsley of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren Laura (Dessy) John of Pleasant Hill, CA and Jennifer (DJ) Vale of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joane Hise. A funeral mass will be held 12 pm on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church 30 Lockwood St, Geneva, OH 44041 with burial to follow at Saybrook Twp. Cemetery.
