Roger Murrell Jones Sr., born April 13, 1940, in Philippi, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, in Madison, Ohio. His life was marked by dedication, service, and deep familial love, leaving behind a legacy cherished by those who knew him.
Roger honorably served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960. His commitment to duty and country was a defining chapter of his life and one that he held with great pride.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted spouse, Hilda (nee: Weaver) Jones, with whom he shared a lifetime of companionship. Roger's children—Roger (Kate) Jones of Ruskin, Florida; Steven (Debbie) Jones of Chiloquin, Oregon; and Vivian Clark of Panama City, Florida—carry forward his spirit and values. His family also extends to a caring brother, Allen (Linda) Jones of Philippi, West Virginia, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were a source of immense joy to him.
Roger was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Russell and Mildred (nee: Shaffer) Jones; his son David Jones; and siblings Rodney, Russell, Paul, Marion, and an infant sister, whose memories he held dearly.
A graveside service to honor Roger’s life and legacy will be held on April 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 10:30 AM at North Madison Cemetery, located at 2844 Hubbard Road in Madison, Ohio 44057. This service will provide a moment for family and friends to come together in remembrance and respect for a remarkable man who touched many lives.
Roger Murrell Jones Sr.’s journey was one of unwavering devotion—to his family, his nation, and the community around him. His memory will remain a guiding light and a testament to a life well-lived.
