Robert Janda

Robert “Bob” Janda, age 94, of Chardon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2025. He spent his final days in hospice care overlooking his beloved Lake Erie—a fitting and tranquil conclusion for a lifelong fisherman. Born on March 2, 1931, Bob was a lifelong resident of Chardon and a devoted member of St. Mary Parish. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran aboard the U.S.S. Columbus during the Korean War. A certified nuclear testing technician and consultant, Bob founded and operated Bob's Hi-Tech Corp., continuing his work well into his 80s. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his commitment to his family. Bob was a devoted and loving husband to his beloved wife, Katie, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, cherished for his quick wit, gentle humor, and the knowing smile he brought to every family moment. Known affectionately as “Scales” by his fishing friends, Bob’s passion for fishing remained a constant throughout his life—from his many days on Lake Erie to the years he spent volunteering at the children’s fishing pond during the annual Geauga County Fair. Above all, Bob’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Katie Janda; his children, Bill (Elaine) Janda, Martha (Ken) Bruening, and Sue (Chris) Bulzan; and ten grandchildren: Ashley (Brett) Bestgen, Heather (Ivan) Tomic, Katie Bruening, Matt (Kim) Bruening, Elise Bruening, Ben (Gabrielle) Bruening, Nick Bruening, Ryan (Ella) Bulzan, Aaron Bulzan, and Scott Bulzan. He is also survived by a growing number of great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Alan Janda. Bob will be remembered for his deep devotion to his family and faith, his love of polka music, and his playful sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, at the Church of St. Mary, 401 North Street, Chardon with burial to follow at All Souls Cemetery. Services entrusted to the Potti & Marc F. Burr Funeral Homes. Obituary, online condolences and memorial gifts available at www.marcfburrfuneralhome.com.
