Michael Thomas Spice, a lifelong resident of Burton, Ohio, passed away on August 12, 2025, at the age of 77 after a long illness. Born on December 28, 1947, in Berea, Ohio, Michael lived a life filled with hard work, devotion to family, and a commitment to his community.
A proud graduate of Berkshire High School, Class of 1967, Michael went on to dedicate his career as a crane operator for Reserve Iron & Metals, where he was known for his skill and dedication. There was not a piece of heavy equipment that Mike could not run skillfully. His hands were not just tools of labor; they were also instruments of love, guiding his family and friends through life's challenges with unwavering support. As well, Mike was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, and telling stories after his adventures.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Carol (nee: Lumadue) Spice, of Burton, who stood by his side as a steadfast partner throughout their 57 years together. Their union was blessed with four wonderful children: Michele (John) Burnett of Burton, Stephanie (Clint) Wojtowicz of Hartsgrove, Cheryl (Mike) Rogan of Portland, OR, and Michael (Tiffany) Spice of Colebrook. Michael took immense pride in his grandchildren: Megan (Nathan) Moore, Lindsey Burnett, Jeff Burnett, Logan Burnett, Ian Rogan, Jordan Wojtowicz, Renee (Julian) Oskin, Stepheni (Elliot) Wright, Reece Jacklett, and great-grandson Greyson Moore, delighting in their accomplishments and joys, and he eagerly anticipated the arrival of his second great-grandchild, due on Mike’s birthday, who will carry forward his loving spirit.
Michael is survived by his siblings, Jim (Nancy) Spice of Noblesville, IN, and Susan (Tom) Rogers of Madison, AL, whose bonds of love and camaraderie were a source of strength throughout his life. The stories told at family get-togethers had everyone laughing for hours. Though he was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Viola (nee: Samide) Spice, their teachings and memories lived on through him and will carry on through the legacy he leaves behind.
A graveside service will be held on August 16, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM at the Claridon Center Cemetery, located at 13932 Mayfield Rd., Chardon, OH 44024. Friends, family, and all who knew Michael are welcome to gather to honor his life and the memories shared. There will be a celebration of life at Memory Lake, 15433 Claridon Troy Rd. in Burton from 11:00 - 2:00. All are welcome to come share memories of Mike.
Michael's warmth, humor, and kindness have touched the lives of many, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved him. He was a devoted husband, a doting father and grandfather, and a loyal friend, who will be deeply missed by all.
