John W. Teske Sr, age 93 of Madison passed away July 2, 2019. Born on Oct. 18, 1925 in Fairview to George and Letitia Teske, he had been a longtime area resident and winter resident of Englewood, FL. John grew up in Fairview and graduated from Lincoln High at 17 when he joined the US Navy serving on the USS Shangri La. When he came home in 1943, he was restless to start a career. He worked and did an apprenticeship in New York at the Robert Finance Design Institute where he earned his cosmetology certificate. After, he moved to Miami and attended La Jose College of Hair design where he excelled. While there, he met his wife Janet Coleman whom he married in Miami. They moved to Cleveland where John worked for Partaro Beauty Salon as a hair stylist and manager. John continued to attend classes at Kent and Lakeland while taking on adventure, Realty School, H&R Tax classes and worked at Malone Realty. After having children, he opened his own salon, Coiffeurs by John, where he was a local celebrity for 11 years. He decided to get back in to teaching and spent 13 years at Mayfield Cosmetology School, retiring in 1986. Janet also passed away in 1986. John loved to travel and even was an airline steward for Eastern Airlines. He loved to tell of his adventures caravanning where he traveled to all states except N. Dakota & Hawaii. He was an avid reader, jokester and all around man of excitement, golfing, gardening, playing shuffle board & casino nights. John loved to fish & boat at the Lake County Yacht Club and in Port Clinton where he had a fish camp. John married a second companion, Marie Lorsch, and lived in Brooklyn, OH. The two of them bought a mobile home in Englewood, FL. After her death, he spent time in Port Clinton and with his son and daughter-in-law. At age 93, he came back to Ohio and decided to stay for good. Surrounded by his family, he spent his last days in Madison. He will be loved, missed and remembered by so many people he touched over his 93 years. Survivors include his children John (PJ)Teske Jr of Madison and Laurel (Larry) Scavnicky; grandchildren Tiffany (Drew) Gardner of Fairview, Letitia (Mike Dingeldey) Scavnicky of Cleveland and Greg Zabukovec; great-grandchildren Delilah M. Teske, Beau D. Gardner, Cora Gardner, Hailey Zabukovec and Madison Zabukovec. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, siblings George Teske and Rita Glaze, and grandsons John W. Teske III and Travis John Teske. John, may you be greeted by those you love at Heaven’s Gate and continue your caravanning adventure until we meet again. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Potti & Marc F. Burr Funeral Homes of Madison, 2726 Hubbard Road, Madison, OH. The family will receive friends from 11am to 1pm at the funeral home on Saturday. He will be laid to rest next to his first wife at Arcola Cemetery in Madison.
