John William Durochik
John W. Durochik, 94, of Fairport Harbor, passed away peacefully at his home on November 15, 2024 with family by his side. John was born on August 23, 1930 in Uniontown, PA, the son of the late Anna(Giratos) and Michael Durochik of Uniontown PA. Throughout John’s life he worked in various positions including, but not limited to, a Pipe-Fitter/Repairman with the Diamond Shamrock, Sales Rep. with Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance, Hills Hardware in service and delivery, Head of Janitorial Services at St. John’s Home in Painesville, and Foreman of the Fairport Harbor Street Department. John was honored to serve his community as President of the Fairport Harbor School Board, member of the Ohio State Small school board advisory committee, Church Council President of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor, Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 77 and President at the Fairport Harbor Senior Center. One of his proudest moments was receiving the 2009 Golden Beacon Award from the Fairport Harbor Men's Civic Club in recognition of his devotion to his community. John accepted Christ as his Savior and committed his life to sharing his faith with others. Through Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor John was able to share this commitment by being Councilman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, Ushering, Property Committee, Evangelism, Stewardship, Convention Delegate, Sunday School Teacher, Executive Committee, Lutheran Church Men of Ohio, Caretaker and Cemetery Custodian. He found much joy and inspiration attending and leading multiple Bible Study groups. In his spare time John loved spending time with his family. Whether it be attending sporting events, working on home improvement projects, or his favorite the family together enjoying a nice sunny day in the backyard. John was preceeded in death by his son Michael Vernon, his siblings Mike, George, Margaret Loptosky, Elizabeth Scarlet, and Irene Kucharek. John is survived by his beloved wife Sally of 73 years. Daughters Debra Hambor, Denise Kee, Darlene Durochik and Donna (David) Dominish. Grandchildren Robert (Lulu) Hambor, Christopher (Jennifer) Kee, Eric (Amanda) Kee, Courtney (Andrew) Banghart, Alex (Kayleigh) Dominish. Great-Grandchildren Tyler, Colten, Kyrsten, Harper and Harrison Kee. Sisters Ann Schwartz and Elaine Wood, sister-in law Diane Torkko and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank his Hospice Mentor Care Team Amber, Rose, Rachel, Mike and John. Per John's wishes, a funeral service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at the Potti & Marc F. Burr Funeral Homes, 538 Fifth Street, Fairport Harbor with burial to follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4-7pm on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, and 12pm-1pm on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Memorial Fund at Zion Lutheran Church, 508 Eagle Street, Fairport Harbor, OH 44077.
