James "Fred" Brown

After a short battle with non-hodgkins lymphoma, James “Fred” Brown, age 68 of Mentor, passed away on Sept. 9, 2022, at Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland, OH. He was in born in Painesville on February 20, 1954, to Glenn Brown and the late Virginia Bush. Much of his youth was spent making great memories with family in McMinnville TN, and Painesville OH graduating in 1972 from Harvey High School.

Fred was a longtime Harbormaster for Mentor Harbor Yachting Club before his retirement. During his 30 plus years in this role, he made many dear friends and truly enjoyed the company of all the members and staff. It was there where he met his wife Pam Gilles, who caught his eye while she was working at the snack bar before she became a beloved Music teacher for Mentor Schools. Over the next many years, they dedicated their lives to raising 3 beautiful daughters before Pam’s passing in 2000. After her passing, Fred continued to provide a secure and loving home for his children. They are forever grateful for the love and guidance he provided them. After several years, he connected with his current fiancé and family friend, Pam Beifuss. Together they were able to blend both families and build a truly loving “framily”

Fred enjoyed traveling (especially on Cruise ships), hunting trips with family, visiting Casinos, boating and driving his Corvette, but his greatest joy was always spending time with his family.

Fred is survived by his long-time fiancé Pam Beifuss of Mentor; his daughters Mary Jo (Tim) Przela of Mentor, Jackie (Jeremy) Lawson of Claymont, DE & Sara (Brian Davis) Brown, MD of Willowick; stepchildren Christina Beifuss of Mentor and Tom Beifuss of Cleveland; grandchildren Kendra, Kyla & Kayden Przela, Avery Davis and our newest grandson Jack Frederick Lawson born on 9/08/22; siblings Michael (Reba) Brown of McMinnville, TN, Barry (Diane) Dodd of Painesville and Benson (Rinko) Brown of Texas.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Pam (Gilles) Brown, mother Virginia Bush, stepmother, Joyce Brown and sister, Vicki Brown.
