Harry Luft, age 86 of Chardon, passed away Sept. 3, 2024, at UH Geauga after a long illness. Born Oct. 27. 1937 in Cleveland to Morris & Jennie (nee Saltzman) Luft, he grew up in Willoughby and University Hts., then resided in Munson Township since 1977. Harry graduated from Ohio State University with a Master's Degree in Social Studies and Education, and studied economics at The University of Chicago. He taught at Chagrin Falls High School, then after taking a world trip with his brother, he became a business entrepreneur specializing in import-export. Together with his brother, he founded Cleveland Tape Corporation, The European Connection retail shop, and Luft Brothers International. He was a member of the Forest City Hebrew Benevolent Society. He was an avid football and baseball fan, a loyal supporter of the Buckeyes, the Browns, and the Indians/ Guardians. He enjoyed classical and rock music, attending numerous concerts, especially those of Matt and his friends. In 1975 he married the love of his life, Virginia Burton, at the Host House in Beachwood. He leaves behind his wife , Ginny, his brother-in-law, Sidney Gold, his niece Diane Gasdick (Patrick), his nephew Robert Gold (Andrea), great nieces Jessica, Rachel, Sarah, Jillian and great nephew Jarrad, the Hamme family, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his son Matthew, brother Sanford, and sisters Rosalie and Helen. A memorial gathering will be held from 10 am to 12 pm on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Potti & Marc F. Burr Funeral Home 1009 Mentor Ave., Painesville, OH ending with a time of sharing memories at 12 pm. Harry will be laid to rest at Mount Olive Cemetery next to his son.
