Obituary

Dorothy Mae Hyder passed away at the age of 95, leaving behind a long history defined by hard work, creative skill, and the vast family tree she set into motion. She was a woman of determination who found her greatest satisfaction in the work of her hands and the value of a job well done. Her hands were rarely still, and her skills turned the simple into handmade treasures and signature dishes.

        • Dorothy was a master of the kitchen and the flower bed. She possessed an eye for beauty, tending her flowers with a care that brought vibrant color to her surroundings. She was a prolific baker and cook, known for the expert canning that preserved the season’s bounty
        • Through sewing, quilting, and crocheting, she turned yarn and fabric into tangible works of art. These pieces remain as a testament to her creativity and grit
        • She enjoyed the challenge of a complex puzzle, a hobby that reflected her sharp mind and her ability to see how all pieces fit together. She also brought strategic precision to the card table, where she was famously ruthless at rummy

Dorothy’s enduring impact lives on in the sheer scale of the life she brought into the world. As the mother of eight, she was the origin point for a sprawling lineage that now spans five generations. Her legacy continues through a vast number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is now reunited with her beloved husband, William ‘Bill’ David Hyder, who preceded her in death.

She is remembered by her children and their families:

  • James ‘JR’ Hyder
  • Glenna Wanchisn and her late husband Jay Wanchisn
  • Peg Knickerbocker and her late husband Myrle Knickerbocker
  • Kathryn Butcheck and her late husband John Butcheck
  • William ‘David’ Hyder II (deceased) and wife Pat Hyder
  • Clara Hyder and husband John Sapp
  • Donna Spina and husband Joe Spina
  • Christy Miller and husband Len Miller

Dorothy lived a full 95 years, marked by the flowers she grew, the quilts she stitched, and the many lives that exist today because of her.
