It is with both sadness and joy, we mourn the passing of Alma “Rose” (nee: Thompson) Hutchinson, age 99 of Madison who passed away peacefully at Geneva Shores Nursing Home on October 13, 2022.
She was born June 15, 1923, in Cleveland, to William and Irene (nee: Ryan) Thompson. She was raised in Cleveland, was the youngest of 11 children, attended East Tech High School and then shortly after high school she met the love of her life, Howard W. Hutchinson and they moved to Madison, Ohio where they raised their family. She was a proud home maker and wonderful mother and later grandmother. She was an inspiration to her three children, five grandchildren, and all their friends and neighborhood children. She resided in the same home until she was in her mid-80’s. She spent her final years living with her daughter and son in law, in Geneva, Ohio and the last two years at Geneva Shores.
Rose had a strong faith and was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church in Madison. Rose and her husband Howard supported many ministries of the Church from the Blue Army, to traveling to shrines throughout the Eastern US to traveling to Portugal for 10 consecutive years in the 1980’s to pray and show their respect to Our Lady of Fatima. Our Lady of Fatima was a central figure in their lives and was visible throughout her home, later at her daughter’s home and at the nursing home. October 13th was the Feast Day for Our Lady of Fatima, which was the same day she was called back home. Her homecoming on this day was not coincidental and one that we will celebrate, as we recall the many beautiful years of faith, love, the warmth of her hugs, the sound of her laughter and the joy of her smile.
Rose was a truly beautiful person from her sense of style, to her beautiful smile, to her contagious laugh and unwavering faith. She was love and kindness. She loved her family more than anything, she was such a proud mother and grandmother. She loved to share what her children and grandchildren had accomplished and she did so with such pride. She was at every birthday party, school event, holiday and in the summers, always watching the grandchildren at the pool. Every Summer Day when her grandchildren and friends came over to the pool she made sure to have her famous sun tea, chips ahoy cookies, and pretzels ready to be enjoyed. She showed her kindness with her giving spirit. She crocheted hundreds of blankets for new moms to swaddle their sweet babies. She was also part of a group of ladies from church who crocheted and knitted prayer shawls for individuals that were in need of payer for a variety of reasons, it was truly inspiring to witness someone so selfless.
Loving Survivors include her children Thomas Hutchinson of Geneva and Marianne (Jim) Repinski of Madison; grandchildren Kristen (Kevin) Koziol, Karin (Christian) Siebeneck, Nicole Repinski, Rachelle (Jerry) Salvatore & Michael (Samantha) Hutchinson and great-grandchildren Jordan (Taylor) Sisk, Ellie Bane, Gannon & Rip Hutchinson. Son in Law Frank L. Crofoot and Daughter in Law Christine Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, husband Howard W. Hutchinson, infant son Howard, daughter Rose Ann Crofoot, grandson in law Steve Bane and infant great granddaughter Adeline Siebeneck.
