Albert W. Finley, a devoted husband, loving father, treasured grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, in Burton, OH. Born on January 17, 1936, in Smithton, PA, he was a man of integrity and was respected by all who knew him.
Al was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from July 14, 1953, to July 13, 1956, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant on November 1, 1955. His commitment to his country shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of duty that would mark his life. After learning electronics in the Marine Corp., Al and his brother, Ron, started their own business, Technicraft, and later Finley Electric.
Being a man of many talents, Al built the house he and his family lived in for 50 years. He could build anything from furniture, to dog boxes, to a bocce ball court. He always had a garden with tomatoes and peppers, and at one time had grapes for wine, grape juice, and jelly.
Al was passionate about life. He found joy in the simple pleasures of hunting, fishing, and reading. He was a frequent visitor of the Chardon Library. Having an enormous appreciation for music, Al would often listen to smooth jazz and loved Sinatra. When his daughters were younger, he would dance with them in the dining room. Al's laughter and stories will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
Most of all, Al loved his wife and daughters. He was a great teacher and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his girls. He was most proud to see each of them succeed. He was a loving grandfather, known by his grandchildren as Papa.
Al faced many battles in his later years, courageously contending with macular degeneration and military service-related Parkinson's disease and Dementia. Throughout it all, he demonstrated extraordinary strength and grace, inspiring those who had the privilege to walk alongside him on this journey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Penny (nee: Delfino) Finley of Chardon; daughters Kelly (David) Wolf of Mentor, Beth (Pat Sullivan) Finley of Lakewood, and Joanne (Ryan) Stegmoyer of Chesterland; and his adored grandchildren, Chase, Owen, and Brooklyn Stegmoyer, who brought immense joy to his heart. He leaves behind his caring brother Robert (Mary) Finley of TN and his affectionate sister Mary (Ray) Kenning of MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Guffey and Roberta (nee: Sethman) Finley, and siblings George & Ronald Finley, Margaret Demeter, and Emma Nix, who welcomed him with open arms.
Visitation will be held on September 19, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Potti & Marc F. Burr Funeral Homes in Painesville, OH. This will be followed by another visitation on September 20, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Mary Parish in Chardon, OH, culminating in a Mass at the same location at 10:00 AM.
