Ruth Matilda Werronen, 92, long time resident of Fairport Harbor, OH, died peacefully January 25, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Lantern of Madison and Hospice of the Western Reserve for their kindness in caring for Ruth.
Born June 30, 1925 in Painesville, she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor for many years. She married the love of her life, Eino, in a chapel in Angola, Indiana on November 24th and promptly ran into the Great Blizzard of 1950 while trying to drive back home. Although her primary career was being a loving and devoted homemaker to her family, Ruth was also, at various times, an employee of the Industrial Rayon Co., Hellriegel’s Inn and Restaurant, and the Fairport Harbor Public Library. She served in the Fairport McKinley Elementary School PTA and had been a member of the Finnish Heritage Museum in Fairport.
She is survived by her three sons, Jeffrey (Deborah) of Concord Township, Christopher (Constance) of Leroy Township, and Nathan of Fairport Harbor; and grandchildren, Stephen (Sheryl) Werronen of Copenhagen, Denmark, Shelby (Matt) McCarty of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, and Seth Werronen of Mentor, Ohio. Ruth also leaves behind sister Rebecca (and husband James) Horton of South Carolina, one sister-in-law Florence Werronen, cousins Ed and Bob Bihary, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 60 years – Eino, her parents Frank and Elizabeth (Gyure) Keckmety, and siblings Clara, Betty, Charlotte, Frank, Barbara, and Pauline.
Services for Ruth will be on Saturday, February 3 at Zion Lutheran Church, 508 Eagle Street, Fairport Harbor. The calling hour will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Potti Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport or Hospice of the Western Reserve.
