Donald Mackey, 94, of Fairport Harbor, died on March 18, 2014 at Harbor Care in Fairport Harbor. Don was born in Fairport Harbor on June 22, 1919, where he graduated from Harding High School in 1938. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor. Don served with the US Army during WW II with the 11th Armored Division and the 42nd Tank Battalion in Europe. He had worked as a mechanic for Holson's Service Station and for the FP&E Railroad in Fairport Harbor. Survivors are his stepchildren, Louis (Nancy) Rendek and John (Debbie) Rendek; grandchildren, Brian (Becky) McCrone, Louis Jr. (Jill), Edward (Lisa), Aja, William and Alex Rendek; and seven great-grandchildren; his niece, Diane Maki, who was his caregiver; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 1984; stepdaughter Mary McCrone; sisters Fanny Barks, Aileen Maki, Hilda Noponen and Erma Orosz; brothers Carl, Vernon, John and Everett Mackey; and parents, Gus and Sophie Mackey. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 325 Sixth Street, Fairport Harbor, where calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church in his memory. Arrangements are by the Potti Funeral Home in Fairport Harbor.
