Coletta Claire (nee: Granzier) Whelan
Age 91 of Ft. Myers, FL passed away July 26, 2017 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, FL. Born January 18, 1926 in Cleveland to Arnold and Anne (nee: Murray) Granzier, she had been a longtime Rocky River resident before moving full time to Ft. Myers Beach in 2002. Claire married John Whelan on July 30, 1960 at St. Rose’s in Cleveland. She grew up in St. Rose’s Parish before moving to St. Christopher’s Parish for over 40 years. She was a member of Mother of Sorrows Parish on South Bass Island for 50 years (Summer) and Ascension Parish in Ft. Myers Beach, FL for 15 years. Claire spent many summers at their vacation home on South Bass Island. She and Jack were active in the Skip Duggan Antique Car Club, the 4 O’Clock Wine Club and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She loved her enormous extended family; her countless friends and every dog she met. Survivors include her husband John “Jack” Whelan of Westlake, OH and daughter Kathleen “Katie” Whelan of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joseph M. and Paul A. Granzier and sister Jeanne Metzger. A memorial mass will be held at 10am on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at St. Malachi Parish, 2459 Washington Ave, Cleveland, OH 44113. A private family burial will take place in St. Patrick Cemetery in Salineville, OH at a later date. Instead of flowers the family respectfully requests donations be sent to the Alzheimer's Association Alzheimer’s Association P.O.
