Carolyn “Carol” A. (nee: Kangas) Thornton, age 79 of Chardon passed away Dec. 26, 2021 at UH Geauga Medical Center. Born Dec. 5, 1942 in Painesville to Neal and Martha (nee: Wireinus) Kangas, she had been a lifelong area resident who loved cats. Carol was well known in the area for her crafting booths at the local fairs, festivals and markets. Carol was the Maple Festival director. She was also proud to be a part of Claridon Community Helps summer lunch program where she helped make and serve over 18,000 lunches to kids in 2020. She is survived by her son James (Susan) Tommer of Chardon; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and sister Sandra Kangas of Sun City, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gilbert Thornton and grandson Deven Tommer. Friends will gather at Evergreen Cemetery in Painesville (Division G, Lot 80) for a graveside service at 12pm on Jan 5, 2022 led by a close friend of the family, Cindy Hennessey.
